Gray seals on the bars in Chatham Harbor on a seal cruise

Outermost Harbor Marine offers daily narrated seal cruises through Chatham Harbor during the season. Cruises leave on the hour beginning at 9:00 AM, with the last trip departing at 3:00 PM, and typically last one hour.

Your local captain will guide you through the harbor and along the outer sandbars, sharing information about the area, its wildlife, and the seals that gather there.

What You'll See

Chatham Harbor and the surrounding sandbars are popular resting and feeding areas for both gray seals and harbor seals.

Gray seals are generally larger, with longer, horse-shaped faces and adult males that can become especially large. Harbor seals are smaller, with rounder heads and shorter noses that often give them a more dog-like appearance.

Depending on the conditions, you may see seals swimming near the boat or hauled out together on the sandbars. You may also spot shorebirds, ospreys, and views of the famous Chatham break along the way.
